Policies

JCPL management is systematically evaluating, consolidating, and replacing the myriad Policies, Guidelines, and Rules regarding various aspects of library use which evolved over time into single statements on particular library use issues.  These single statements make it easier for staff, and patrons, to locate and understand the library’s approach to service as they support our Vision, Mission, and Values.  Current and concise, these policies are located on the library's Public Website. There is a link titled “Policies” in the footer of the library’s website.

The Policies page has information on subjects from Art to Tours and includes policy statements on Basic Library Service, Unattended Persons, and Security Video.  PiCs should visit the Policies page to familiarize themselves with current library guidelines periodically as part of the consultation process.  Remember that library staff has the authority to interpret policies and make exceptions they deem appropriate to the situation.  All staff should be aware of the Emergency Decisions Policy, which says:

When faced with an emergency, Library administration supports the efforts, actions, and decisions of any Library employee acting in good faith with the information available to them and acting in accordance with Library policies and procedures.
